Whether for culture or shopping: Düsseldorf is well worth a visit.

The capital city of the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia has only around 600,000 inhabitants. However, it is part of one of the largest urban centres in Europe with more than 11 million inhabitants: the metropolitan Rhine-Ruhr region. The city on the Rhine is located right in the middle of it all. This central location makes Düsseldorf an ideal starting point for you to take an excursion into the Ruhr region. Many interesting attractions await you there. The Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex in Essen, for example. The former most beautiful coal mine in the world is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is an impressive monument of industrial history. Today, you will find a wide range of cultural events here.

Düsseldorf is a vibrant economic centre of Germany. No wonder culture flourishes as well. Spend a splendid evening at a concert in the concert hall at Hofgarten Park.  Here you can listen in to the virtuoso concerts of the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra. They are amongst the renowned musical ensembles of Germany and boast a superb reputation world wide. Or you can spruce yourself up and experience an enchanting evening at the German Opera on the Rhine. The performances speak for themselves.

Welcome to the Kö. Düsseldorf's most famous street may rightly consider itself amongst the small group of the most famous boulevards in the world. It is the catwalk of Düsseldorf. Luxury and maybe even decadence define the nearly one-kilometre-long Königsallee. Here you will find the mirror finish entrances of bank centres on one side. On the other, boutiques and exclusive shops with the most expensive brands in the world. Fashion is of course the main focus when shopping here. No wonder. Düsseldorf ranks amongst the most prominent fashion centres in the world and hosts one of the most important fashion trade fairs, the IGEDO. The Kö therefore attracts visitors from all over the world. Many visitors come to the city simply to shop on this street.

Düsseldorf offers a blend of Rhine cheerfulness and the cosmopolitan charm of a trade fair metropolis. Guests from all around the world come to the many leading international trade fairs in the city. They have a perfect connection to the economic metropolis via the third largest airport in Germany. Opposites and parallels define life in Düsseldorf: on one hand, the historic Old town, on the other, the avant-garde architecture in the Media Harbour. Rhine cosiness in the Old Town pubs and glamorous shopping on the Kö.
